WordPress CMS Information

WordPressWordPress is a state-of-the-art publishing platform
with a focus on aesthetics, web standards, and usability.

Why did AKIS choose WordPress?
Here are some of our main reasons:

Easy to add or change content

Our main reason for choosing WordPress over other CMS systems available as the basis for our self-update based website packages was how quick and easy it is to add new content to a website with this. Once your initial website build has been completed by us and the CMS side all configured, then adding or changing content in future is simple. You just log into your site admin area, write the content for a new page, or edit content on an existing page, then hit ‘submit’. That’s it! Your website will be updated instantly for the world to see.

This is great for clients who want full control of their website content but don’t have the skills to edit their site at raw coding level or deal with the core database behind WordPress. Simply put, WordPress makes it simple for clients to maintain their own websites via an online interface. All you need is a computer and internet connection to edit your website. And if you know how to use Microsoft Word then you can use the WordPress page editor.

You can contact us for 3 day evaluation access onto our WordPress “testing site” allowing you to try-before-you-buy!

Open Source = Free – So no costly software licence!

Another key reason for choosing WordPress is the fact that it’s open source and it’s a ‘free’ CMS meaning there is no commercial CMS software purchase/licence charge to add onto the website package price (commercial CMS software or bespoke systems can add many £100′s to £1,000′s onto a website cost!).

WordPress has a huge and passionate community behind it meaning that the software is regularly updated with improvements and enhancements being added on a frequent basis – including security updates which are released on a regular basis immediately to address any security issues.

Template based system – core designs/layouts (also known as “themes”)

WordPress is built around a core database, basic configuration, and a template/theme system which dictates how the website ‘looks’.  A benefit to this template layout/theme system used by WordPress is that we can build websites faster and so cheaper – both of benefit to you as client.

We will provide you with a range of base layouts/themes to choose from as the basis for your website, which we will then customise  with your images, content, navigation and page structure to create a bespoke site to suit your business needs.  This arrangement also allows the content and the theme/design to be considered separately and also allows the design of a site to be revamped or changed in future much more easily than a conventional website.

Award winning CMS system!

WordPress was awarded the Overall Best Open Source CMS Award in the 2009 Open Source CMS Awards. This was a landmark for them, as it is the first time they won this award, and it marked a shift in the public perception of WordPress, from ‘blog’ software to full-featured CMS. No small contest, the Open Source CMS Awards received over 12,000 nominations and more than 23,000 votes across five categories.
