| What rules/restrictions are there on domain names themselves? |

Domain names can be any length between 3 and 67 characters.
Domain names are not case sensitive.
Domain names can only contain letters numbers and hyphens ("-" signs). Spaces are not allowed, neither is punctuation. Names cannot start or end with a hyphen. You cannot have a space in your domain name - the way around this is to use hyphens. You can use hyphens to make domain names easier to read, e.g. www.my-domain-name.co.uk
Domain names extensions: different domain name types are used for different circumstances e.g. if your website or business is aimed at a UK audience, it makes sense to choose .co.uk. If you want your website to reach an international audience, you should consider registering your domain name in formats such as .com and .eu.
