RoundCube Webmail Bug – Known Issue

It has come to our attention that sometimes the email list/inbox doesn’t refresh (i.e. doesn’t show the new emails) when using the RoundCube webmail interface.  Even if clicking “Check for new email” nothing new appears and only when the user clicks on a different folder and then moves back, does the new email become visible.  This is a bug known by the RoundCube developers and not something we at AKIS have any control over (it’s a 3rd party product supplied with your hosting cPanel).  Until such time as the RoundCube developers release a fix, anyone using RoundCube as their only means of email should follow the above process to check their mail (or use Horde).

Google May Pull Out of China

Google issued a shock announcement yesterday that it may end censoring the results of its Google.cn search engine after a series of hacking attacks that it says was aimed at human rights activists.

We recognize that this may well mean having to shut down Google.cn, and potentially our offices in China.

WordPress Updates

WordPress CMS software is constantly being developed and updated. As enhancements are made and security exploits are identified and addressed it is vitally important to keep your website up to date with the latest stable version of the core WordPress software and related installed plugins. It is critical that your site is kept up to date!

There are usually many core WordPress updates released each year and the related work involved in a CMS website update would normally involve:  a complete backup of your WordPress website (files and database);  installing the core WordPress update;  updating the various plugins installed on your site, and finally updating or tweaking your template/theme design if needed after the update. This work can take anything from 20 minutes for simple update on a very small basic site to a number of hours for a larger site, depending on the type of update , the number of plugins and how they are affected and the exact type, size and content of the website being updated.
