WordPress 3.0 has finally been released and is now available to upgrade/install – see info and download page here. We’ve now started the process of checking site themes for 3.0 compatibility and then upgrading sites – we hope to have all client sites updated over the next 7 days. Less than two thirds of surfers are now using Microsoft’s browser on the web as other browsers increase in popularity. Internet Explorer slipped below 60 per cent of the market in April – read more at The Register.
Just a quick heads up that WordPress 3.0 is scheduled to launch on 1st May – we will be upgrading all client’s site to this new version when it arrives.
UPDATE: WordPress 3.0 should have been released on 1st May, but now, the core developers of WordPress have removed the release date because of bugs that still need to be fixed. There are expectations that the production version will be released in the last week of May or in the early start of June 2010.
As some AKIS clients use Mals-Ecommerce cart/secure server 3rd party service (not an AKIS service) in conjunction with their CubeCart and PayPal Pro this announcement is to let you know that the Mals service has been under DDOS attack. This has caused issues on a number of Mals servers and may affect your payment processing if you are on one of their affected servers. See the Mals-Ecommerce forums for further information and updates.
WordPress 2.9.2 is now available and addresses certain security risks – see info page here. Upgrading is only required if you have untrusted users signed up and sensitive posts in the trash. No AKIS package installations are affected so we won’t be upgrading sites immediately for this but will be upgrading all sites onver the next 7 days. A new version of the excellent and popular Firefox has been released by Mozilla – Firefox 3.6. This new edition of Firefox has many new features, best of which is an increase in speed – apparently 20% faster than Firefox 3.5 with improved load times, startup speed and stability.
