This ecommerce website package uses a combination of WordPress and the commercial “Shopp” ecommerce plugin to produce store with better visual design options (per all our other sites) and a better more easily managed admin area for store owners. We will soon be rolling out “suPHP” across all servers which will not only provide an added layer of security but equally importantly will enable PHP scripts to run under your account username instead of the ‘nobody’ user which is the default Apache/Web server user. This brings about many benefits which include, but is not limited to:
- All files and folders generated via HTTP (such as blog and CMS content uploads and generation, including WordPress) will be owned by the correct user instead of ‘nobody’
- More efficient process control (how many can run at once, how long the processes can run for, the amount of CPU and memory each process can take)
- Enhanced security between user accounts
- Display accurate disk usage on quota calculations
- More efficient abuse tracking for processes running spam scripts or attack bots

General AKIS News, Important AKIS Announcements
AKIS would like to inform all clients that we no longer support Internet Explorer 6.0. It is over 9 years old and does not support the latest web standards. This restricts us from using the latest web development technology when developing new websites.

Even Microsoft themselves have urged its customers to upgrade to its Internet Explorer 8.
Some of the many IE6 problems…

It is not going to happen, so don’t waste your time! We noticed a Twitter tweet today that is worth remembering – whether you are a client or a designer – “Web sites cannot, need not and should not look the same in all browsers.“ Good advice, but remember while they don’t need to look the same, you still need to make sure they are operational and work without bugs or layout faults in all browsers.

It has come to our attention that sometimes the email list/inbox doesn’t refresh (i.e. doesn’t show the new emails) when using the RoundCube webmail interface. Even if clicking “Check for new email” nothing new appears and only when the user clicks on a different folder and then moves back, does the new email become visible. This is a bug known by the RoundCube developers and not something we at AKIS have any control over (it’s a 3rd party product supplied with your hosting cPanel). Until such time as the RoundCube developers release a fix, anyone using RoundCube as their only means of email should follow the above process to check their mail (or use Horde).
