Large Scale Ecommerce Packages Discontinued

After much time spent investigating systems, multiple trials, and long thought… I’m afraid I have to report that we have now reached a final decision on the large scale ecommerce site packages and that decision is we will no longer be providing that service on new sites.  Our trials with various alternative (to CubeCart) ecommerce platforms, the high-maintenance nature of ecommerce sites generally, plus the fact that 95% of our work is non-ecommerce sites, has resulted in this business decision.  We do however have a new ecommerce solution/add-on perfectly suited to low product volume, paypal only ecommerce sites –  see our revised ecommerce page for more info.

WordPress 3.1.1 Released – Upgrade Now!

WordPress 3.1.1 upgrade is now available and we will be upgrading all AKIS full service clients in the next 48 hours. AKIS Hosting / Self-Service clients should update their own installations as soon as possible.  This upgrade is a maintenance release with also has a number of security fixes – so get upgrading!

WordPress 3.1 Released Today – Upgrade Now!

WordPress 3.1 is now available and we will be upgrading all AKIS full service clients in the next 48 hours. AKIS Hosting / Self-Service clients should update their own installations as soon as they can.

This release features a lightning fast redesigned linking workflow which makes it easy to link to your existing posts and pages, an admin bar so you’re never more than a click away from your most-used dashboard pages, a streamlined writing interface that hides many of the seldom-used panels by default to create a simpler and less intimidating writing experience for new bloggers (visit Screen Options in the top right to get old panels back), and a refreshed blue admin scheme available for selection under your personal options. With the 3.1 release, WordPress is more of a CMS than ever before. The only limit to what you can build is your imagination.

New Sites Launched: AKIS Hosting + AKIS Helpdesk

We are pleased to announce the re-launch of our stand-alone AKIS Hosting diy web hosting division website at the new address of akis.co.uk.

We are also pleased to announce the launch of a new off-network helpdesk for our AKIS Hosting diy web hosting clients at the new address of akishelpdesk.co.uk. (NB: This is only for DIY hosting clients).

CubeCart v3 Ecommerce Sites – “End Of Life” Announcement

We would like to inform all clients that the CubeCart software developer Devellon have announced “End of Life” for CubeCart v3 and v4 - the announcement can be read in full on their site and an extract is included below.  Obviously this means we can no longer fully support CubeCart v3 sites with the developers support, but will of course support you as far as we can – but we suggest you start planning a move to a newer ecommerce platform over the next 12 months (or sooner) since the lack of security patches could potentially be a problem in future.

There comes a time when all software reaches the end of life stage of its product life cycle. From the release day of CubeCart version 5 we plan for the following timescales concerning the end of life of older versions:

CubeCart Version 3 – Released July 1, 2005
* Official support, documentation, knowledgebase articles and forum pages will be discontinued.
* Downloads will no longer be available.
* Development, including security patches will cease permanently.

What if I wish to keep using v3 past the end of life timescales?!
Your software will never expire and there is no obligation to upgrade.

We will also be emailing all affected clients directly in the next week on this matter.
