Still using IE6? – Upgrade! – AKIS no longer support IE6

AKIS would like to inform all clients that we no longer support Internet Explorer 6.0.  It is over 9 years old and does not support the latest web standards. This restricts us from using the latest web development technology when developing new websites.

Are you still using Microsoft Internet Explorer 6?  Why?!  It’s over 9 years old, outdated and poses a security risk – you really need to upgrade to a modern browser which supports the latest web features and gives you better online security (e.g. IE8, Firefox 3, Google Chrome).  Even Microsoft themselves have urged its customers to upgrade to its Internet Explorer 8.

Some of the many IE6 problems…

  • IE6 is insecure with a host of vulnerabilities – so much so that many governments have officially advised against using it. Newer modern browsers have much better protection against Phishing attacks and other security issues.
  • IE6 doesn’t fully support new web features and web standards so if you are viewing a modern website, the chances are that some features aren’t working, the website layout might look odd/broken and you will see odd looking grey boxes on modern PNG type images.
  • Google has announced it’s phasing out support for IE6. It’s pulling IE6 support from Google Apps/Docs – so you’re in for problems if you use this Google feature and are still using IE6.

In light of these IE6 problems and the fact that nobody should be using it in 2010 we have taken the decision, along with the majority of the web development community (including Google), to cease support for IE6 in our websites.
